Michigan GEAR UP Program

Michigan has built a strong infrastructure and capacity to provide GEAR UP services through a statewide coalition of its 15 public universities. The Michigan GEAR UP Program provides Â鶹´«Ã½ participants in the state with support services to increase Â鶹´«Ã½ to succeed in higher education at post-secondary institutions. It's mission is to provide an opportunity for Â鶹´«Ã½s to discover, first-hand, the potential of a college education and to expose Â鶹´«Ã½s to the information, knowledge, and skills they need to prepare themselves adequately for college entry and success.

Michigan’s 15 public universities work statewide with economically and academically disadvantaged Â鶹´«Ã½s in 51 of Michigan’s school districts and 90 school buildings. Each location has a Â鶹´«Ã½ population of at least 50 percent qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

Michigan GEAR UP is a state partnership grant funded by the the U.S. Department of Education and the State of Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) King/Chavez/Parks College Day Program.

The program's partners include Michigan Department of Education, Michigan’s 15 public universities, EDUGUIDE,  Michigan College Access Network, Michigan Department of Treasury Office of Scholarships & Grants, Michigan Foundation for Educational Leadership, University of Michigan School of Education Center for Education Design Evaluation and Research, and Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP).
