Tutoring and Mentoring Services
The Office of Pre-College Programming continues its tutoring service at four local Kalamazoo Public School sites. The service is a collaboration between the department, Michigan GEAR UP, Upward Bound, the College of Education’s ED3200 course and the Mentoring for Success Program at WMU. In person tutoring is held every Tuesday and Thursday afterschool. Tutors are comprised of WMU Â鶹´«Ã½s ranging in various academic disciplines.
This is a free service for pre-college Â鶹´«Ã½s at:
- Loy Norrix High School
- Kalamazoo Central High School
- Hillside Middle School
- Linden Grove Middle School
WMU Â鶹´«Ã½ volunteers have the chance to engage in K-12 service Â鶹´«Ã½ within our partnership at Kalamazoo Public Schools (KPS). WMU Â鶹´«Ã½ volunteers are placed at a K-12 school in KPS where they tutor and mentor Kalamazoo community youth during afterschool programming. All Â鶹´«Ã½ volunteers are prepared with a pre-college information session and training to be a College Positive Volunteer (CPV), providing them with the tools and knowledge that will enable them to become ambassadors of higher education.
