Housing Sign-up

You made a great choice with WMU Campus Housing!

Nowhere in Kalamazoo will you find the convenience, choices and support available with 鶹ý’s campus housing. Once you sign up, check your WMU email on a regular basis.  Housing and Residence Life only sends communication to your .

Eligibility

Students enrolled in at least one credit hour are eligible to live in WMU's residence halls and apartments. There are additional eligibility requirements for apartments.

  • 18 years old on the day sign-up starts
  • Continuing WMU 鶹ýs must have a minimum of 26 credits between credits already earned and credits enrolled in during the current semester. Credit eligibility must be met by the start of the contract.
  • Transfer 鶹ýs must have a minimum of 26 credits accepted by WMU. The credit audit must be complete and the credits posted to their WMU transcript before access to apartment sign up will be given. Access is automatically evaluated when logging into the housing portal.
  • Graduate 鶹ý
  • Housing for 鶹ýs who are married or have dependent children is available in Stadium Drive Apartments
  • Graduate 鶹ý, undergraduate 鶹ý with senior status, or a non-traditional 鶹ý at least 21 years of age

Sign-up Process

You will need your Western Identification Number (WIN) to e-sign the contract.  No deposit is required to sign up for housing.

The housing contract is a legally binding agreement with WMU. View the cancellation schedule for applicable cancellation fees.

Admitted 鶹ýs: A WMU login is needed to enter the portal. If you have not created yours, please click on the “create your password” link in your email (subject line:  Your 鶹ý (WMU) login). The email was sent shortly after you were admitted.

Fall sign-up begins 10 a.m. EST January 24, 2025.  There are three stages to complete the process:

1. Reserve a space

2. Select a roommate

3. Choose your room

January - May

February - May

June

Complete a housing contract, create your roommate profile, and opt into the roommate search feature if you choose. Students under 18 will need a parent/guardian co-signature. An email is sent to the individual you identify giving them directions on what to do.

Create a Roommate Group to link you and your roommate in our system. If you are looking for a roommate, our Roommate Finder goes live April 1. Search by lifestyle, interest and academic college. You will receive up to 20 matches and their contact information.

Check your WMU email late May for your assigned date and time to choose your hall, room and meal plan. All 鶹ýs are entered into a lottery to determine the order they choose their room in early June.

Returning 鶹ý sign-up begins in February. Directions are emailed to 鶹ýs and dates are advertised in the residence halls. Students pick their fall room at the same time as completing their housing contract.

Single rooms are available on a limited basis.

Student chooses their apartment when they sign their housing contract. Current residents have priority to remain in their space or transfer to a new unit prior to sign-up opening to new residents. Residents sign an individual per-bedroom contract, which means that each roommate is financially responsible for their own portion of the rent. If a roommate moves out, it will not affect your apartment contract.

If you have friends you want to live with, create a Roommate Group prior to selecting a unit.  Only one person in the Group needs to select an apartment.  All other roommates will get an email to confirm the unit and sign their contract. They will have a week to complete their contract or space is released to another 鶹ý.

Apartments are designated as male, female or coed, as well as furnished or unfurnished.

Arcadia Flats and Western View
  • 10.5-month contract beginning in late August
  • January – July 1 contract based on availability
  • The fall lottery opens early December and closes a few days before apartment selection begins, usually in early February. Requesting a lottery number does not commit you to choosing a unit, and there is no guarantee you will get a unit with a lottery number. There is no lottery for spring vacancies. Watch the housing portal and Housing and Residence Life’s social media channels for announcements about space and sign up.
  • Arcadia Flats:  Utilities and laundry are included.
  • Western View:  Each resident is responsible for their portion of the utilities. Gas and electricity are paid directly to Consumers Energy.
Stadium Drive Apartments

  • Summer (sessions I and II) – 4-month contract
  • Academic year (fall and spring) – 8-month contract

Students choose their room when they sign up for Spindler Hall.  Current residents have priority to remain in the building.

Students with an academic year lease who do not return spring semester due to graduation, 鶹ý teaching, studying abroad or leaving the university are not financially responsible for spring semester.

Residence Halls

A residence hall is set aside for summer housing. Summer contracts can be for Summer I, Summer II or both sessions. Sign up begins after spring break. Room assignments are made as 鶹ýs check into the summer hall.

Apartments

Apartment space for new contracts is not guaranteed during the summer.  Refer to the sign-up calendar for dates for the different complexes.  Apartments are designated as male, female or coed, as well as furnished or unfurnished.

  • Stadium Drive Apartments - Summer is a four-month contract covering Summer I and II.
    • New apartment residents:  You must be enrolled and taking at least 1 credit hour the semester that you move in.  For example, if you are only taking Summer II classes, you cannot move in Summer I.
    • Current apartment residents:  If you are a resident spring semester and have a contract for the upcoming fall, you are not required to be enrolled for either summer session. If you do not have a contract for fall, you must be enrolled for at least one credit hour for Summer II.

The housing portal is different than the Golden Gateway used in the admissions process and the Orientation Hub. After being admitted, an email with your and temporary password was sent to your personal email account.  If you have not changed the temporary password, visit Change Password prior to logging in to the housing portal. If you do not have your Bronco NetID and temporary password, please contact the Technology Help Desk at (269) 387-HELP or email @email.

Residence hall sign up begins November 1, 2024.  Room selection begins early December (directions to be emailed to your WMU email).

Apartment and Spindler Hall sign up begins November 15, 2024.  Space is limited.

Please contact the Housing Coordinator at @email if you have questions.

Roommates

Once you have identified your roommate(s), create a Roommate Group to link together in the housing system.  That is how you can claim a room or apartment as a group.

Residence hall 鶹ýs can use the Roommate Finder to find a roommate.  Enter search parameters related to living habits, social preferences, and interests.  We will provide up to 20 matches and their contact information for you to reach out and introduce yourself.  Students must opt-in for the roommate search future when they sign their housing contract.

Accommodations

Students requesting disability-related accommodations with respect to housing and/or dining should start the process by contacting WMU Disability Services for Students (DSS) at (269) 387-2116 or www.wmich.edu/disabilityservices

It is the 鶹ý’s responsibility to request disability-related accommodations. It is important to know that the number of housing spaces is limited. While we cannot guarantee all requests can be honored, submitting these requests prior to April 15 will aid in the implementation process. Requests received after April 15 will still be reviewed and fulfilled as able.

Students living on campus multiple years must renew housing and/or dining accommodation requests with DSS each academic year.
