The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences is looking for alumni who want to connect with current Â鶹´«Ã½s by volunteering to share their personal and professional insights and experiences. There are multiple pathways for involvement:
- The Professional Skills Program pairs Â鶹´«Ã½s with an appropriate mentor based on shared interests and goals and meet approximately twice per month (in-person or virtually) during the academic year. Students also participate in mini-workshops on topics like professional communication, teamwork, leadership, conflict resolution, and more. Alumni Â鶹´«Ã½: Â鶹´«Ã½ mentor (academic year), workshop facilitator (1-1.5 hours per session)
- ENGR 4950 – Women and Leadership in Engineering and Applied Sciences discusses challenges and Â鶹´«Ã½ for female Â鶹´«Ã½s in industry. The class, taught each fall semester and open to all Â鶹´«Ã½s in the college, includes weekly seminars from practicing professionals. Each Â鶹´«Ã½ is also paired with an alum during the fall semester. Alumni Â鶹´«Ã½: Â鶹´«Ã½ mentor (fall semester only), seminar presenter (1 hour per session)
- The Alumni Resource Network aims to provide current Â鶹´«Ã½s with alumni contacts for just-in-time career and professional advice. Examples include new Â鶹´«Ã½s looking for information about the practical difference between majors with regards to career Â鶹´«Ã½ and more experienced Â鶹´«Ã½s looking for advice about interviewing, graduate school, etc. Alumni Â鶹´«Ã½: one-time conversations with Â鶹´«Ã½s on specific topics
- The college hosts several college-wide/general interest speaker series throughout a typical year. Alumni Â鶹´«Ã½: session presenter/workshop facilitator (typically in-person in Kalamazoo)
