The Certificate in PBIS will prepare educators and related service personnel to work in schools to meet the unique behavioral needs of learners in K-12 environments through systemic, positive, prevention focused, and data-based decision making. With this certificate, educators and related service personnel will be able to collaborate with other school professions to plan interventions to meet the needs of Â鶹´«Ã½s who present challenging behaviors. In addition, the program may be of interest to teachers who wish to expand their skills of meeting the needs of Â鶹´«Ã½s with academic and behavioral challenges, as well as manage their classrooms to support all Â鶹´«Ã½s.
This program is offered in-person, online and hybrid.
This program is designed to meet the needs of school personnel who:
- Are interested in developing a specific skill set to meet the unique behavioral needs of PreK-12 learners.
- Want to become school leaders in the area of positive behavior supports.
- Desire to gain behavior strategies for learners with intense challenging behaviors.
Great program features:
- All PreK-12 school personnel with at least a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply for this certificate (elementary education teachers, secondary education teachers, special education teachers, social workers, counselors, administrators, etc.)
- Provides a comprehensive program to meet the needs of learners with challenging behaviors based on current theory and practice.
- Prepares school based personnel to collaborate and engage with multiple professions to better meet the needs of learners with challenging behaviors.
- This program is all online.
- Individuals who earn the certificate in PBIS may be eligible to apply to the online Master of Arts in Special Education-Concentration Behavior Specialist and use the courses completed toward their degree. The certificate is 15 credit hours and is comprised of the first 5 courses of the master’s degree.

- Bachelor’s degree, at least one school based credential, and prior PreK-12 experience.
- One page statement explain applicant interest in this certificate.
- Meet university requirements for graduate level admission.
Program requirements
Students will complete a planned program of study consisting of 15 credits of course work for the graduate certificate. An overall program grade point average of 3.0 or better is required to continue in the certificate program. The required courses for this certificate include:
