Statement of policy

The purpose of the policy is to articulate the policy and accompanying procedures for the appointment of retirement eligible faculty to achieve emeriti status.

Summary of contents/major changes

Emeritus status may be recommended for faculty members who are retiring provided that hey have a minimum of ten (10) years or the equivalent of full-time service in a board-appointed, ranked faculty position.

  1.  The chair writes to the dean recommending emeritus status and attaches a cop of the faculty member's notice of retirement.
  2. The dean reviews the recommendation and, if in support, writes to the provost recommending the emeritus status and attaches a copy of both the chair and faculty member's letters. A brief biographical sketch indicating degrees received and some contributions to Â鶹´«Ã½ should also be submitted to the provost.
  3. The provost reviews the submitted documents and sends written communication documenting his decision to the faculty member, dean, and chair/director. The provost then submits the requires and recommendation for final approval by the Â鶹´«Ã½ Board of Trustees.
  4. The provost communicates the decision of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Board of Trustees.

The recommendation for emeritus status is to be included in the documents of retirement.
