Dr. Duane Hampton is an emeritus associate professor of physical hydrogeology and groundwater modeling in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Â鶹´«Ã½.
Hampton's research began with finite element modeling of flow of water, heat and chemicals in variably saturated soils and aquifers. That interest continues today in modeling carbon sequestration in deep saline aquifers. He has also done field and lab studies to improve monitoring and recovering underground fuels and solvents. This carried over into well design and construction and slug testing wells. He has worked with Dr. Daniel Cassidy on remediating contaminated sediments, focusing on geotextile biointrusion barriers to protect the food chain from PCBs and other contaminants adsorbed to river and lake sediments. He also is interested in relationships between surface and groundwater.
