Committee 1

Institutional Commitment

Equity, Inclusion and Diversity

The areas of focus for Committee 1 include:

  • Ensuring that academic advising’s mission, values, beliefs, and educational experiences are Â鶹´«Ã½-centered and inclusive, as well as reflective of institutional values and beliefs.
  • Supporting an intentionally structured advising program that upholds equity in the advising experience by clearly defining roles for advisors, the institution, Â鶹´«Ã½s, and other mentoring or advising providers on campus.
  • Verifying that academic advisors are knowledgeable about the institution’s expected learning outcomes, curriculum, pedagogy, and the Â鶹´«Ã½ learning process.
  • Identifying appropriate resources and systematic approaches to continuous assessment and improvement.
  • Upholding our institutional commitment to creating a culture of inclusivity and advocating for the values of social justice (moving beyond equality) by promoting understanding, respect, and appreciation of diverse perspectives, ideas, and identities.

The areas of focus for Committee 2 include:

  • Providing equitable support for Â鶹´«Ã½s to define their own purpose, goals and curricular pathways and achieve learning outcomes through coherent curricular programs and seamless transitions.
  • Ensuring effective and equitable hiring and development practices, as well as encouraging recognition, reward, and professional advancement for all advisors and advising administrators.
  • Systematically assessing advisors and advising programs, as well as the inclusion and use of scholarly literature to improve advising culture and practices.
  • Upholding our institutional commitment to creating a culture of inclusivity and advocating for the values of social justice (moving beyond equality) by promoting understanding, respect, and appreciation of diverse perspectives, ideas, and identities.
