Cat Crotchett is a Professor of painting in the Â鶹´«Ã½'s Gwen Frostic School of Art. Cat joined the Frostic School of Art in 1996. Cat teaches a wide range of classes across the curriculum, including general education, foundation art, drawing and painting.
Crotchett has been a professional artist for more than 25 years. She currently specializes in mixed media work combined with pigmented beeswax. Her studio work focuses on layers and juxtapositions of information using decorative patterns associated with Southeast Asia and classical Western civilization. It is characterized by the use vibrant colors and textured surfaces. Crotchett has an extensive exhibition record that includes solo exhibitions at Vanderbilt University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Maryland Institute of Art and Barbaran Segaragunung Gallery in Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia. In addition, she has an extensive record of international and national group exhibitions and has been recognized through numerous grants and awards including a Gilmore Emerging Artist Award through the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. Crotchett’s work is represented in public collections including the Medical College of Virginia, Brigham Young University, Bowling Green State University, Firelands College and Â鶹´«Ã½. Her work is also included in numerous private collections.
