Neil Maxa
B.M. Trombone Performance
Â鶹´«Ã½ (1988)
Additional coursework at UNLV
Why did you decide to attend WMU?
- I was impressed by the brass faculty after hearing the Western Brass Quintet, which included trombonist Russell Brown at that time. Besides his playing ability, his knowledge and instructional approach were key attributes. There were also quite a few outstanding trombonists in the program and outstanding alumni, which gave a competitive spirit.
- The outstanding jazz faculty and the Jazz Orchestra.
- The Dalton Center facilities.
What do you consider to be your most important achievement to date?
I would consider that my most important musical achievements are my stint performing with Paul Shaffer and performing/recording with Tower of Power.
What is your fondest memory of the trombone studio, or the music program at Western?
My fondest memory would be my senior recital. It combined a lot of preparation from both the trombone studio and the jazz program. It also included quite a few of the most talented Â鶹´«Ã½s/musicians at Western.
