Bio:

Dr. Dee Sherwood joined the School of Social Work in 2012. Sherwood’s research, teaching, and practice are focused on organizational and leadership development, intercultural competence, intergenerational trauma, and critical pedagogy in social work education. From 2012 to 2021, she served as the MSW Program Director of the Grand Rapids Regional site. Sherwood was a co-recipient of the WMU Innovative Teaching Award in 2016. She developed service learning and travel-study courses focused social, economic, and environmental justice in Chicago, Puerto Rico, and Spain.

Sherwood serves as the primary investigator for a Garrett Lee Smith SAMHSA grant in partnership with the Gun Lake Tribe. The "We Walk Together" grant provides suicide prevention and early intervention with Native American youth and young adults in a five-county region. Over the past two decades, Sherwood has conducted organizational, community, statewide, and regional evaluations for organizations such as the Michigan Indian Legal Services, Sutter Health System, and Spectrum Health System. Sherwood has presented professionally at conferences, developed continuing education seminars, and authored/co-authored numerous articles, curriculum guides, and book chapters.
