General summary

Oversees strategic initiatives related to teaching and learning.

Major duties

  • Contributes to the strategic planning process for the unit by translating annual goals and objectives from the strategic plan into actionable departmental objectives and plans.
  • Communicates goals and objectives to direct reports.
  • Provides recommendations for institutional policies and financial decisions that impact teaching and learning. Contributes to the budgeting process and oversees the budget for the instructional design and development team.
  • Maintains University online education standards and strategies to support delivery of current and emerging instructional modalities. Ensures University, state, and federal accreditation standards and best practices for course development and design are researched, maintained, and current across instructional modalities.
  • Conducts research to support innovation and improve teaching and learning.
  • Oversees the instructional design and development team internal and external, credit and non-credit, projects, processes, and daily operations.
  • Collaborates with University teams to provide support. Assesses the effectiveness and impact of programs on teaching and learning.
  • Serves on college and university committees.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory Experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience teaching in Higher Education.
  • Experience teaching on-line, Hybrid and face-to-face courses.
  • Experience in instructional design and project management.
  • Experience with learning object development and creation.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment of projects and learning needs.
  • Experience mentoring and observing facilitators, teachers, instructors and other teaching and learning professionals.
  • Experience working in a center for teaching and learning or similar unit.
  • Knowledge of development best practices for both credit and non-credit offerings, adult learning principles and methods and user-centricity principles.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and Universal Design for learning guidelines.
  • Knowledge of application of accreditation, state, national and institutional teaching and learning standards and expectations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using industry standard tools and training technologies.
  • Advanced use of Learning Management systems.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
