General summary
Directs University Recreation programs and facilities by developing, managing, and establishing policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations. Guarantees fiscal integrity of the department.
Major duties
- Provides leadership to the professional staff and Â鶹´«Ã½s that promotes Â鶹´«Ã½ learning and personal development.
- Establishes an inclusive work environment and supports a diverse Â鶹´«Ã½ and staff population.
- Directs the strategic and organizational planning activities to unify all functions and services offered by University Recreation. Utilizes assessment data to improve the effectiveness of operations.
- Negotiates contracts for the department. Manages, budgets and audits department financial accounts and programs. Projects revenues and allocates funds. Develops and monitors budgets for facility and program improvements.
- Establishes department policies, procedures and activities. Ensures the safety and security of all participants through the training of staff. Oversees compliance with national guidelines and accepted risk management practices. Serves on the Student Affairs emergency teams.
- Develops marketing, sponsorship strategies and promotional Â鶹´«Ã½ to publicize, generate additional revenue, and promote programs and services.
- Oversees selection, implementation, and management of department software programs. Serves as technological liaison with information technology. Evaluates and recommends purchases and implementations of new technology.
- Works collaboratively with other University departments, Â鶹´«Ã½s, and the community. Serves on various divisional and University-wide committees.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and Â鶹´«Ã½ employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Management experience in facilities operations, health promotion, wellness, sport and leisure activities, strategic planning, or budgeting.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Supervisory experience.
Required other
- First Aid/CPR/AED or ability to obtain within first 60 days. Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekend and holiday on call duty.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
