General summary
Creates and implements programs designed to help new Â鶹´«Ã½s make a successful transition to the University. Oversees new Â鶹´«Ã½ orientation and mentorship programs.
Major duties
- Develops, implements and evaluates development-based in-person and virtual orientation programs for beginner and transfer Â鶹´«Ã½s. Collaborates with businesses, University departments, faculty and staff to ensure effective integration into orientation programs.
- Collaborates with department teams to develop and execute communication plans. Resolves technology and operational issues. Oversees budget and costs related to programming expenses.
- Collaborates with other University units to develop and implement resolutions for institutional transfer practices and policies that negatively impact transfer Â鶹´«Ã½s.
- Reviews academic proposals and attends the college curriculum meetings to advocate for transfer Â鶹´«Ã½s. Advocates for individual transfer Â鶹´«Ã½s to resolve issues. Communicates with Â鶹´«Ã½s on a regular basis using phone, email and in-person follow-up on issues and concerns.
- Initiates a peer communication plan, using data to drive decision making, that is inclusive to University and Â鶹´«Ã½ needs. Integrates multiple avenues for communication and collaborates with others to deploy messages through text, video, social media, and email.
- Creates and maintains processes and systems for the peer mentoring programs. Assists with evaluation and assessment program outcomes.
- Maintains a high degree of knowledge of Â鶹´«Ã½ development, programming, and technology.
- Plans and leads regular staff meetings and trainings for orientation and peer to peer Â鶹´«Ã½ leaders.
- Provides ongoing leadership and identifies and resolves personnel and operational issues.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises Â鶹´«Ã½ employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and technology skills.
- Experience in conflict management.
- Experience with public speaking.
- Experience with training and development.
- Advanced knowledge of first-year Â鶹´«Ã½ development, working with undergraduate Â鶹´«Ã½s and parents and families.
- Advanced knowledge of program planning and design.
- Advanced knowledge of higher education retention.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
