General summary

Leads a comprehensive career center to help Â鶹´«Ã½s and alumni develop competencies for informed decision making. Sets the vision and strategy for the unit and aligns its goals and offerings with institutional and divisional priorities. Oversees a full career and experiential education program for Â鶹´«Ã½s.

Major duties

  • Promotes a University program that encourages all Â鶹´«Ã½s to have a culminating and integrative learning experience. Assesses and updates program design to maintain competitiveness. Promotes the program and program graduates.
  • Ensures efficient, inclusive, and effective programs in alignment with University goals. Provides staff with professional development Â鶹´«Ã½ and performance evaluations. Oversees departmental hiring, training, and evaluation of staff and Â鶹´«Ã½ employees. Stays current on industry and state trends.
  • Collaborates with senior institutional leaders, colleges, and other university partners on creating relevant career education interventions, job fairs, and experiential education Â鶹´«Ã½.
  • Oversees the University’s online enterprise-wide campus engagement platform, job posting platform, and other career related technology platforms.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of new technologies for delivering service. Researches tools and vendor products.
  • Manages the department’s annual budget, resource allocations, and expenditures.
  • Represents the University and the department in the community. Builds mutually beneficial partnerships and sponsorships with corporations, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Provides direction for monitoring and increasing the number of Â鶹´«Ã½s participating experiential education Â鶹´«Ã½. Develops partnerships with internal partners to provide co-curricular Â鶹´«Ã½ and extra-curricular Â鶹´«Ã½ for Â鶹´«Ã½s.
  • Facilitates strategic planning activities to integrate all functions and services within the department. Utilizes data to make informed decisions with a goal of improving the effectiveness of programs and services. Conducts campus-wide assessments on stakeholder needs and existing services.
  • Approves and signs community service work study contracts with area employers. Oversees work-study earnings, job location, and development activities. Ensures reporting to federal government and university offices related to these activities are complete.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Eight years' relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with career assessment instruments, career counseling techniques, career development theory and online job search strategies.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
  • Budget management experience.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
