General summary
Provides direct services for Â鶹´«Ã½s registered with disability services who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or other Disabilities by leading initial appointments to establish reasonable accommodations and schedule translation services for courses.
Major duties
- Meets with new and current Â鶹´«Ã½s that identify with being Deaf or Hard of Hearing and are registered with disability services. Determines reasonable accommodations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Â鶹´«Ã½s. Meets with other Â鶹´«Ã½s for accommodation requests as needed.
- Schedules all translation services for Â鶹´«Ã½s that are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Maintains contracts with vendors. Schedules interpreting services for Â鶹´«Ã½ requests. Processes invoices for payment for interpreting services.
- Establishes best practices for working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Â鶹´«Ã½s. Meets with faculty and Â鶹´«Ã½s when there are concerns. Facilitates educational workshops for faculty and staff.
- Maintains communication with faculty and staff in regards to technology needs. Manages distribution, and storage of assistive listening devices for Â鶹´«Ã½ use in academic class rooms.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises part-time staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Two years' relevant experience.
- Strong Knowledge of Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) and American Sign Language (ASL) translation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
- Experience with software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation programs.
Required other
- Ability to transport, roll or carry up to 25 pounds of assistive listening devices equipment to assignments across a large campus with varied terrain and weather conditions.
Desired qualifications
Desired education
- Master's degrees in any of the following fields, Student Affairs, Rehabilitation Counseling, or Disability Studies.
Desired experience
- Five years relevant experience.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
