General summary

Determines and grants appropriate academic accommodations for Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities, ensuring that Â鶹´«Ã½s are able to participate in all aspects of the college experience.

Major duties

  • Meets with new Â鶹´«Ã½s to initiate disability services. Serves Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities.
  • Reviews disability documentation, history of accommodations and current impact of disability to determine appropriate accommodations in accordance with disability-related laws and regulations.
  • Addresses parental concerns, advocates for Â鶹´«Ã½s, and provides guidance for Â鶹´«Ã½ concerns.
  • Coordinates housing and standardized testing for Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities.
  • Manages Â鶹´«Ã½ data systems. Analyzes and reports data using various online programs and software systems. Creates forms and templates for office use. Edits the department's website. Gathers and reports data for annual reports and studies.
  • Represents the department in state and national professional organizations.
  • Meets with Â鶹´«Ã½s and parents at new Â鶹´«Ã½ orientation and participates in Â鶹´«Ã½ events.
  • Promotes disability education awareness by providing classroom presentations, training sessions with residence hall staff, and meeting with faculty and departments for disability instruction.
  • Reviews publications, journals, regulatory rulings, and upcoming trends related to post-secondary disability issues.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the director in their absence.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing access and accommodations for disabled persons. Experience with Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Experience with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

Desired qualifications

Desired education

  • Master’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Desired experience

  • Experience working in a disability services agency.
  • Experience with accessible technology in higher education.
  • Experience with Â鶹´«Ã½ affairs.
  • Supervisory skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
