General summary

Coordinates testing accommodations for Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities and alternative textbook requisitions from publishers.

Major duties

  • Facilitates open communication with professors and instructors regarding procedures for testing for Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities.
  • Establishes the testing schedule in the disability services accommodation system. Reviews and approves testing requests for Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities. Communicates with faculty members, instructors, and graduate teaching assistants about specific testing issues.
  • Maintains an updated list of volunteer readers and scribes for exams and ensures that volunteer information is readily available for staff to access. Schedules test readers and scribes for Â鶹´«Ã½s who request accommodation.
  • Remains current on new technology for alternative textbook formats. Communicates with other universities on best practices for processing textbooks for Â鶹´«Ã½s. Meets with Â鶹´«Ã½s to assist with alternate formats and provide them for use. Collaborates with rehabilitation counselors to process alternative format accommodations for Â鶹´«Ã½s.
  • Reviews and updates alternate format textbook processes and testing procedures each semester on the department website and in the accommodation system. Maintains accounts for services to access textbooks from publishing companies.
  • Trains Â鶹´«Ã½ staff on how to scan, edit, and bookmark textbooks that are not available in alternative formats from the publisher.
  • Meets with Â鶹´«Ã½s who have technology needs due to their disability.
  • Communicate with the University’s accessible technology staff regarding policies and regulations.
  • Updates and maintains related data systems and the department’s website.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Â鶹´«Ã½s with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Experience with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to research unfamiliar products and services.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

Desired qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Desired experience

  • Experience working in a disability services agency.
  • Experience with accessible technology in higher education.
  • Experience with Â鶹´«Ã½ affairs.
  • Supervisory skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
