General summary
Monitors and assists in the University’s compliance with Michigan laws, rules and regulations regarding teacher, administrator and counselor certification and licensure. Advises Â鶹´«Ã½s regarding program options and requirements leading advanced and additional certifications.
Major duties
- Interprets and communicates rules, regulations, policies and procedures to internal and external constituents. Advises teachers and administrators in regards to University and Michigan Department of Education teacher certification rules, laws and policies.
- Works with University and state education department staff to ensure compliance with certification program standards. Represents the University at state-wide professional association meetings.
- Advises both enrolled and prospective undergraduate and graduate Â鶹´«Ã½s on University, college and department academic curricular requirements.
- Assists certified educators and aspiring candidates in selecting and completing certification programs. Assists candidates with course planning and scheduling. Manages graduate-level certification applications and admissions processes.
- Provides final approval for teacher, administrator and school counselor initial certification and additional endorsement applications in the online certification system for University program completers.
- Ensures that licensing forms for counseling education and counseling psychology graduates are effectively reviewed, analyzed, approved and submitted to the Michigan department of licensing and regulatory affairs.
- Consults and collaborates with the appropriate State of Michigan and out-of-state agencies to ensure University alumni are approved for out-of-state licensing and certification.
- Collaborates on assessment of department Â鶹´«Ã½ learning and process outcomes, including survey development and data analysis.
- Creates department webpage content and manages website updates.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises Â鶹´«Ã½ employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three year’s relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of Michigan teacher, administrator and counselor certification and licensure laws, rules and regulations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks with accuracy and professionalism.
- Effective collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Experience and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Experience with software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation programs.
Required other
- Ability to travel throughout Michigan.

- Teaching Certificate from the State of Michigan.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
