General summary
Advises and counsels international Â鶹´«Ã½s regarding immigration, academics, probation, employment, travel requirements, financial and personal matters.
Major duties
- Advises and counsels international Â鶹´«Ã½s on matters related to compliance with federal immigration regulations and University policies and procedures.
- Advises and counsels international undergraduate and graduate Â鶹´«Ã½s regarding the effect of complex issues have on their immigration status on academic course load, probation, employment, travel requirements, financial, medical, and personal matters.
- Serves on the Â鶹´«Ã½ exchange visitor information system compliance team in order to ensure institutional compliance with U.S. federal immigration regulations.
- Serves as liaison with University departments and external organizations.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of U.S. immigration policies and regulations.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Working knowledge of the Student Exchange Visitor Information System.
Required other
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to meet the federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security) and Alternate Responsible Officer (for the U.S. Department of State).
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
