Director Transition Programs

General summary

Develops programs and services that engage Â鶹´«Ã½s in their undergraduate transitions. Works collaboratively across the University to enhance yield and Â鶹´«Ã½ transitions for success.

Major duties

  • Implements a freshman seminar program based on the Â鶹´«Ã½ development theory that meets the transition needs of new Â鶹´«Ã½s.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of all welcome week activities, transfer Â鶹´«Ã½ services and new Â鶹´«Ã½ orientation for transfer and freshman Â鶹´«Ã½s.
  • Oversees the development of strategic support programs designed to meet the needs of contemporary adult Â鶹´«Ã½ learners.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with senior institutional leaders and departments in promoting Â鶹´«Ã½ success.
  • Manages the department’s annual budget, resource allocations and expenditures.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to develop and deploy online training modules for new incoming Â鶹´«Ã½s.
  • Contributes to implementation of strengths mentoring program.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and Â鶹´«Ã½ employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Budget experience.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience planning and implementing programs, conducting program evaluations and preparing reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to work with diverse Â鶹´«Ã½s, faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of Â鶹´«Ã½ development theory, inclusive of adult learning theory.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds. 

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
