General summary

Provides leadership and supervision for residence hall and service desk operators, including supervision of assistant directors of residence life, residence hall directors and graduate assistants. Plans, reviews and manages department budget.

Major duties

  • Supervises, trains and evaluates assistant directors of residence life who, in turn, supervise residence hall directors, graduate assistants and residence assistants.
  • Develops and monitors the residence life budget. Oversees ongoing budget management and tracking.
  • Manages service desk and hall office operations. Develops and monitors departmental policies, training and procedures for service desks and hall offices. Executes and manages the academic year hiring process. Oversees the employee discipline process for Â鶹´«Ã½ employees and the Â鶹´«Ã½ payroll budget. Coordinates and manages the mailing system for residence halls, recruitment efforts and events, liaises with and trouble shoots issues with third party vendors.
  • Coordinates and facilitates process for groups and individual Â鶹´«Ã½s that need to move in early to the residence halls for each semester or summer session. Serves as liaison with the athletic department for their housing needs.
  • May have oversight and responsibility for resident life related functions and departmental decisions related to residence life, in absence of supervisor.
  • Supervises staff who advise the residence housing association. Assists Â鶹´«Ã½ executive board members and advisors with planning programs.
  • Participates in on-call duty rotation for residence halls and on-campus apartments to respond to after-hour crises and emergencies.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Formal training and experience in crisis intervention and conflict management.
  • Budget management experience. Experience advising Â鶹´«Ã½ organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends, and be on-call for emergencies and training.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
