Connections - Global Perspectives

Courses in the Global Perspectives category should broaden Â鶹´«Ã½ perspectives and engage them in global issues, both historical and contemporary. At the same time, Â鶹´«Ã½s should further develop reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking skills and learn to work collaboratively.

In "Real-World Problem" or "Big Question" classes, Â鶹´«Ã½s should use skills to address program themes (such as sustainability) or answer questions important to humanity which reach beyond the classroom (such as poverty, democratic movements, etc). This is where integrative and applied learning approaches should take place, and it can be a great opportunity for experimental learning activities, if appropriate to the discipline.

The ultimate goal of such courses is to enable Â鶹´«Ã½s to approach problems from multiple perspectives, interpret information, comprehend complex aspects, learn to listen to contrasting viewpoints, synthesize that information, and finally express an opinion in both written and oral/digital forms.

Students may choose from a wide range of disciplines, including areas applicable to their majors or minors.

Courses in this category must meet three outcomes, one of which is required.
