I did my undergraduate degree here at WMU and throughout my time at Western I was involved in a multitude of Â鶹´«Ã½ organizations and in that I found out about the HESA program. I was then able to connect with faculty from the program during my undergrad to figure out how to apply and what the program was about and how it will prepare me for the future.

have shot through the office of Â鶹´«Ã½ engagement in which visa was able to connect with that opportunity and in that I work with attorney sorority life Â鶹´«Ã½s and I worked at Rocco match and in that I work with very sorry like Â鶹´«Ã½s and I was able to work at Bronco bash this past fall and working with the office of Â鶹´«Ã½ engagement connecting with Â鶹´«Ã½s talking about what our office does and he's so definitely connected me to that opportunity and those experiences that I get outside of the classroom great so what's is there another aspect that he said that I think you had something in your head if we haven't already gone over that umm something like about he said that you think prospective Â鶹´«Ã½s would want to know take your time one of the most impactful things about the user program is the people the faculty care about each and every Â鶹´«Ã½ within the program their success in and outside of the classroom and also preparing them for their futures in the field as well as faculty I've also connected with my cohort members who are fellow Â鶹´«Ã½s also taking the same classes as me and it's nice because when we get together we can connect about our different grad assistantships jobs and other undergraduate experiences that's perfect I'm so happy you mentioned cohort because I didn't even know that

In one of my classes last semester we did a cross-border collaboration with some Â鶹´«Ã½s at the University of Toronto. So, we worked on case studies virtually and connected on several occasions to find out about each other 's institutions. Through this I was contacted to do a international conference and talk about my experience as a Â鶹´«Ã½ in the cross-border collaboration. It was perfect and I loved the experience.

The HESA program has prepared me a lot for my career post graduation. I'm excited to enter the field I feel like I know a lot about it we've been talking in our classes and with those that are in different functional areas with their experiences are the faculty does a great job of inviting different guests into the classroom such as the vice president of Â鶹´«Ã½ affairs and other folks from the university we've also taken trips to other campuses and the Western Michigan area to expand our horizons and look through different institutional types in this I feel prepared to enter the field having a wider variety of knowledge than I would have just at WVU an opportunity that I had through the Easter program was to do a summer internship at this internship I did my field experience at Georgia college and State University which is a a public liberal arts institution and I was able to just completely immerse myself in the experience learn about a new institution meet new faculty members connect with different types of Â鶹´«Ã½s

all Â鶹´«Ã½ affairs professionals follow the professional competencies let me think about the maintenance Austin affairs professionals work to understand the 10 professional competencies and and this adhesive program at western has classes specifically designed in each competency area such as a diversity equity and inclusion course such as a diversity equity and inclusion course in which we get to learn more about the topics of diversity equity inclusio

diversity equity and inclusion course is that is one of the professional competency areas and this each piece of Â鶹´«Ã½ at WSU works to create an E portfolio throughout their time in the program that way they can show it to future employers and also showcase the learning and Â鶹´«Ã½ that they have throughout the program in this we get to highlight all competency areas and pull from our course material

career post graduation and the theory to practice that we do in the classroom the role plays with Â鶹´«Ã½s the Â鶹´«Ã½ to work with different Â鶹´«Ã½ populations throughout the time in the program I feel more prepared to enter into the professional field of higher education and Â鶹´«Ã½ affairs in a few years I see myself working in Â鶹´«Ã½ engagement as is where I have my graduate assistantship during my graduate degree

Higher education and Â鶹´«Ã½ affairs at WMU

The higher education and Â鶹´«Ã½ affairs (HESA) concentration in the educational leadership program is offered in-person in Kalamazoo with Â鶹´«Ã½ to take some of your electives online. The HESA program operates like a cohort-based program with most Â鶹´«Ã½s starting in fall semesters. Students from all undergraduate majors are welcome and the program serves full-and part-time Â鶹´«Ã½s. The 39-credit hour curriculum combines a Â鶹´«Ã½ development and leadership theory core, diversity and inclusion electives, and two individualized field experiences.
