Meet Hannah: Presidential Scholar '23

Hannah

I chose my major of K-12 physical and health education because I have always been passionate for health and fitness.  I wanted to be a teacher specifically, so that I can be a positive role model for my future Â鶹´«Ã½s to live healthy and active lifestyles.

My favorite part of my major is that it is a small program, which has allowed me to form close connections with my professors and peers.  Additionally, I love that my major covers all grade levels and is the dual major of both physical and health education because it expands the teaching Â鶹´«Ã½ that I will have after graduation.

I am currently the secretary of the running club at WMU (RunWestern).  I also have a part-time serving job.

I would encourage them to attend WMU if they offer the major they are interested in. I would tell them that the campus is beautiful, there are many resources available, and the sporting events (especially the hockey games) are fun to attend.

K-12 physical and health education at WMU

WMU’s program will prepare you as a pre-service teacher candidate to be certified in both physical education and health education, offered in a 4-year or 5-year degree plan. The overarching goal of this dual-major degree program is to assist you in acquiring the skills, knowledge and real-world experiences to become effective, competent and committed physically- and health-literate professionals in today’s society.

Presidential Scholar Award

Each year, faculty members from across the University select the most outstanding senior in their various academic schools, departments and programs to represent their units as a WMU Presidential Scholar. The Presidential Scholar designation is the highest academic honor that WMU can bestow on its undergraduates. Selection is based on the Â鶹´«Ã½s' general academic excellence, academic and artistic excellence relative to their majors, and intellectual and artistic promise.
