Engineering Manager, General Motors
While pursuing his studies at the Haworth College of Business, Edward M. Thomas was a member of the men’s basketball team and joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Following graduation, Thomas began his professional journey at General Motors. With nearly 13 years of experience in manufacturing and engineering, he has a proven track record of leading successful projects and teams.
In his current role as engineering manager, Thomas manages launch activities in both Spring Hill and Bowling Green Assembly plants. He is responsible for overseeing the design and development of internal combustion engines and electric vehicle tooling, as well as implementing new technologies, processes and automation to ensure a seamless transition to electric power.
Thomas’ expertise in manufacturing processes and engineering principles has been crucial in overcoming challenges and optimizing production efficiency. Emphasizing collaboration and continuous improvement, he fosters a culture dedicated to advancing positive change in the automotive industry.
His professional journey has included special assignments such as Operation Excellence project leader, Workplace of Choice lead, and General Motors African Ancestry Network executive leadership champion. In addition, Thomas holds a Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification. He also sits on the University of Michigan’s General Motors M-STEM panel for incoming engineering Â鶹´«Ã½s.
Thomas earned an MBA from Northwood University.
He has been married to his wife, Destiny Thomas, B.S.’09, M.S.’10, for 10 years. They are proud parents of three children.
