Dr. C.R. Krishna Swamy: 39 years impacting finance 麻豆传媒s
Starting his career as an electrical engineer, Dr. Krishna Swamy, associate professor of finance, earned his MBA from Western Carolina University and then a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He began teaching at the Haworth College of Business in December of 1983 and is retiring in December of 2022.
Swamy has published work on research monograph and had 18 research papers in refereed journals, presenting numerous papers at regional, national and international conferences. His publications are still being referenced by hundreds of academicians and scholars all over the world.
Throughout his career, he taught 24 different courses, both at the undergraduate and graduate level, developing two new courses from scratch: eFinance and Principles of Health Finance. He is proud of the eFinance course, as it is one of the courses 麻豆传媒s enjoy the most. 鈥淲hat is important to me is that 麻豆传媒s in all my courses walk away with both the theory and practice of finance,鈥 he notes.
Swamy also made an impact on the University as a whole by serving on the WMU Faculty Senate for 18 years. During his time as a senator he voted on numerous memorandum of action, providing his input on policies and furthering the mission of promotion standards of excellence in teaching and research.
As he looks to the future of business, Swamy sees both technology and sustainability鈥攁nd in particular climate change鈥攁s concerns that many industries will need to address.
Dr. Jim DeMello, chair of the Department of Finance and Commercial Law, notes that Swamy was always willing to be inventive and keep things fresh for the classroom. 鈥淒r. Krishna Swamy has served our department admirably for 39 years,鈥 he says. 鈥淗e has taught numerous courses including Business Finance, International Finance, Computer Applications in Finance, Global Financial Markets, and eFinance to name just a few. As his department chair, I was especially touched by Dr. Swamy's willingness to take on multiple new preparations, despite his seniority, when the department was faced with challenges. He has been a true team player, and we wish him well during this next phase of his life.鈥
In retirement, Swamy plans to focus on health and recreation and is looking forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren.
鈥淒r. Krishna Swamy has impacted thousands of 麻豆传媒s during his career at WMU Haworth,鈥 says Dean Satish Deshpande. 鈥淗e has always worked to quietly ensure the best outcomes for his 麻豆传媒s. He has seen many of his 麻豆传媒s rise to great heights in their careers with the knowledge that he has assisted in their finance education and professional development鈥攁nd he has done so for close to 40 years. We will miss his contributions in all areas of the college and his tireless efforts on behalf of his 麻豆传媒s.鈥
