Joel Webley
Excellence in Diversity Award Recipient 2021
WMU Alumnus, Pilot, OBAP Officer
In January of 2021, Webley began serving as Board Chair of the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, providing guidance and leadership to Board Members, the Executive Director, and OBAP members. Working closely with the Executive Director to ensure the organization flourishes in its mission to change lives Webley is guiding the team towards effective strategies in all functions that translate to maximum impact for the communities they serve. OBAP members are dedicated to the encouragement and advancement of minorities in all aviation and aerospace careers. Graduating from WMU in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Flight Science, Webley began serving as an Instructor Pilot in the United States Air Force in 2005, a role he continues in today as a Wing Tactics Officer, responsible for training combat aircrew in tactics, techniques and procedures required for effective weapon system employment. From 2010 to 2012, Webley sought and obtained his Master’s degree in Project Management from Boston University, which he then put to use serving as a Process Improvement Leader at General Electric from 2012 to 2017. At GE, some of Webley’s accomplishments include designing and implementing a department Safety Management System, designing improved billing software, and identifying and initiating efforts to improve business intelligence tools for better future oriented decision making. Since 2018, Webley has served as a First Officer at FedEx Express.
