Musical Arts

Â鶹´«Ã½'s musical arts program offers a broad-based music education with a curriculum including a wide variety of courses such as basic music skills, aural skills, music history and literature, multimedia arts, conducting and composition.

To be admitted into WMU's musical arts program, you must successfully complete the school's audition and testing program, held each November, January and February.

Beyond the classroom

Students are required to take at least four hours of repeatable ensemble electives including for several of the University’s renowned choruses, bands and orchestras. Most ensembles are by audition only.

The performing ensembles at WMU have assumed a significant role in the cultural, educational and aesthetic environment of the greater University community. Additionally, as they have traveled throughout the United States, South America, Europe and Asia, these performing ensembles have favorably extended WMU's distinguished reputation of excellence in the arts

Also required are four hours of non-repeatable performance hours, such as keyboard fundamentals, voice and guitar classes.

And, as a musical arts Â鶹´«Ã½ at WMU, you will be invited to enjoy the School of Music’s constant flow of guest artists for concerts, classes and residencies.
